Questioning "progress" and sustainability

22 Jan 2025

Progress and 'convenience' are often intermingled.

For us, convenient ways of living

A faster computer, phone

Something has changed in last few decades..

Convenience and Progress : seems to be diverging.

Some examples

Tesla and EV revolution

People like 'driving'.

Sometimes, driving becomes a passion : not a quest to go from point A->B

Thats not for all : but for people who live in congestion free cities.

but 'driving' became a 'problem' : coz 'commute' to workspace : was becoming longer/boring and taxing

: we were not helping the 'climate'

so 'self driving' cars : the idea began to form shape.

Work : was needed : so driving needs to become less problematic : hence self driving cars : made sense for many.

They don't remove the 'congestion' : but somehow make the drive 'bearable' : coz 1 can watch stuff on tablet.

Muskie iron-man : had all the solutions : lithium has different properties when it comes to USA companies backed by wef ideas.

Lithium mining and its dependency : is progress. It is 'carbon efficient' : coz the electric which charges lithium : is produced by lithium itself.

Smart Tv

Got to love the boot time of a minute.

Then all the 'reminders' on home screen of google tv.

This all : makes watching TV quiet : smart.

For the 1st time : getting a UPS to a cheap tv became compulsory : just to watch a movie in peace...

coz a reboot : or an electric cut : or the firmware update : or the usual software debauchery of bugs/hacks..is just too much to ask

Smart Phones

They are too smart with a lithium battery 'sealed' inside .. and 0 repair-ability intent.

a new phone a year : is a reality.

Or buy the iPhone for 2 years : same thing

Choice?

Lithium : is the magic of all this 'battery' dependence : powering a forever connected world.

Do we want to be forever connected?

I think so...

not all of us...

but most of us.

Why is that ?
