The Origin: A Gift of Celebration (2004)
The statue was officially unveiled on June 18, 2004. It was a gift from the Indian government to honor its long-standing research partnership with CERN, which dates back to the 1960s.
It was presented by high-level Indian officials—including Dr. Anil Kakodkar, then-Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission—and accepted by CERN's Director General at the time, Dr. Robert Aymar. The statue itself was cast in India using the traditional lost-wax method by master craftsmen in Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu, and given an antique finish.
