Rather than bashing on 'now' : google : etx..
..IBM makes the most relevant example : it was google of PC.
Thinkpad : still amongst my favorite computing device..
not the best...but was the best.
T410 : last of IBM thinkpads..in design.
the design : was the iconic keyboard..
the design : ensured productivity and reliability.
but chini bros : and their habit of 'cheap innovoation'...
wont let anything evolve..
the keyboard was 'improved' to some 'island bs'..
and the love was gone..
t420 and 30 : probably the last of them...
IBM in pc : was gone. the zombie lived.
Dell : precision and latitude : became my next things..
both with consistent build, repairability and quatity..
a consistent 'brand' : which lived and survived.
Its 'values' : saved it.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThinkPadfurther thoughts...
from swappable batteries -> sealed
replaceable keyboard -> cheap, repair intensive
thats roi of a brand, deprecating its 'values'.
sure t became p..
but what remained : was chinese innovation : ever dependent on plastic and $
